Coopers Brewery and The Royals, celebrating the end of the world’s longest dry spell, have created a huge welcome mat, made from beloved pub carpet, to welcome Melburnians back to the pub.
After spending a total of 267 days in lockdown - the longest in the world - Melbourne emerged from its sixth stay-at-home stint on October 29.
The 5.5 metre wide welcome mat, strategically located in North Fitzroy, is also soaked with the smell of Coopers Pale Ale, to give punters a little reminder of what they have missed.
Sebastian Vizor, ECD at The Royals: "As an iconic Australian beer that’s been quenching the nation’s thirst for nearly 160 years, Coopers have seen it all – riding through great depressions, world wars and now COVID, so who better suited to lead the charge and celebrate the world’s longest locked down city finally ending by welcoming us back to the pubs."
