Supermarket giant Coles has pulled the current issue of Bauer's Harper's Bazaar off its shelves, claiming its cover is inappropriate.
The issue features Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr who graces the cover in nothing other than a pair of shoes.
The supermarket confirmed the news to The Sydney Morning Herald, with a spokesperson saying: "We didn't think the cover was appropriate for our stores so the decision was made."
In a further statement issued to AdNews, a spokesperson said: “In response to feedback from our customers, many of whom shop with their children, we removed the magazine from sale earlier this week.”
It is thought that the cover was pulled after complaints were made, however it is unclear the exact number of people who took issue with the magazine's cover.
Bauer had no further comment about the move made by Coles to pull the title, with Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Kellie Hush telling the SMH: "I was really disappointed to hear Coles made the decision to pull the Miranda Kerr issue off shelves," she said.
"The cover is a beautiful artistic image taken by one of Australia's best photographer's Steven Chee and I stand by that. I have had so much positive feedback from around the globe; it is a shame Coles does not also recognise the artistic integrity of this image. As Gloria Steinem says: 'The human body is not obscene.'”
The isn't the first time supermarkets have been called on to pull a title, with Zoo previously being the focus of a petition to have the men's title removed from both Woolworths and Coles.
