What are the best cinema ads in recent history? Dumb Ways? Lionel Ritchie in the fridge? Aldi's nappy homage?
Maybe. But now it's time to make new history. You can do it. Just enter the Val Morgan Aces awards for the best cinema (and TV) ads going. They are free. And you have a good chance of winning as things stand.
Can you do better than these recent finalists? Watch them again just to see. Then enter and have your efforts assessed by Clems Paul Nagy, Toby Talbot, Rob Belgiovane and Paul McIntyre.
2013 finalist Tap King – The Search, guest starring Lionel Ritchie and a fridge for Lion by BMF (check the parodies it spawned too). This one, like many, notched-up more than 100,000 YouTube views:
Kubota's 'Sheer Tractoring Pleasure' by Redhanded Creative. It includes memorable lines such as: "Windows? Yes. Really big ones." "135 horsepower means it can go from zero to.....whatever speed this is," as the tractor slowly comes into view.
Metro Trains' 'Dumb Ways to Die' by McCann. "Dress up like a moose in hunting season," it warns. We always do.
Melbourne Writers Festival campaign Stories Unbound, created by JWT Melbourne. Brilliant play on the cliched storylines repeated perhaps too many times by gangster and vampire films.
M&C Saatchi's 30 second Optus 'Lion' commercial (2012). Probably best to keep your mobile in a safe place at all times. Especially if you're on safari.
The ACES are free to enter and open to Australian-produced commercials that have appeared on Cinema or TV screens in the past six months.
Details on how to enter can be found here.
All ACES finalists receive points towards the AdNews Agency Rankings. The winning commercial is awarded the prestigious Ace of Excellence trophy, a cinema media schedule to the value of $25,000 and a private screening for the winning company.
