The 2025 Australia Day honours list features media industry figures with awards made under the Order of Australia.

Among them is Peter Kennedy, a prominent journalist who worked for the West Australian, the Sydney Morning Herald and the ABC.

He has been made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for “significant service to the print and broadcast media as a journalist”.

"It is a great honour to be recognised like this," Kennedy told the ABC.

"It's an important honour I think for scores, hundreds of journalists around the country that work seven days a week, 24 hours a day in the cities and in the regions, often without much recognition, but do important work."

Sports journalist Kelli Underwood, the host of the ABC’s Offsiders, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to broadcast media.

She was the first woman to call an Australian Football League match on television and radio. She is a Life Member, Australian Football Media Association.

Jemima Garrett, a former ABC South Pacific correspondent and co-convenor of Supporters of Australian Broadcasting in Asia and the Pacific, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to journalism.
