As the levels of original content from streaming players such as Netflix, Amazon and Stan ramps up, it seems Apple is the latest business to tout its impending offering, featuring well-known US rapper and producer Dr Dre.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dr Dre, who is Beats co-founder and an Apple exec, will be starring in and producing his own TV six-show original and “explicit” series called Vital Signs.
The semi-autobiographical storyline is rumored to be distributed via Apple Music and features other celebrities such as Mo McCrae and Sam Rockwell.
As if the TV and streaming wars weren't heating up enough with the arrival of new streaming platforms and the emergence of fresh free-to-air channels from TV networks Seven and Nine, throw in Apple's original content and the stakes will be well and truly raised.
Last week YouTube launched its first lot of original content, under the umbrella of its paid subscription services, YouTube Red. Four shows will debut on the service including a reality-adventure series from YouTuber PewDiePie called Scare PewDiePie and a feature length movie starring YouTuber Lilly Singh called A Trip to Unicorn Island.
