The Australian Effie Awards has named Anthony Freedman, Group CEO of Host ad One Green Been as its new chairman, as current chair Matthew Melhuish hands over the baton.

Melhuish, who is also Group CEO of Enero, has spent six years as chair of the Australian Effies awards and was responsible for introducing it to the Australian market. He was previously AFA Effectiveness chair.

The Effies are an annual award which recognise the year's most effective advertising and marketing communications campaign.

“When you combine the Effies and the AFA awards I have served around 10 years as the Effectiveness chair and it is time for a change,” Melhuish said.

“I am delighted to welcome Anthony Freedman as the new Australian Effies chair and am certain that his talent, experience and passion will see support for the Effie awards continue to grow.”

Under Melhuish's leadership, entries to the Effies have almost doubled since inception. Freedman said his appointment comes at a time where effectiveness in marketing has never been more important.

“The Effies play a critical role in raising the level of professional competency across our industry, focusing us all on becoming better at constructing and arguing our case for the investment of marketing funds in boardrooms,” Freedman said.
