Independent creative Adrian Elton has a new fake political ad campaign that's causing a stir.
This time his target is Josh Frydenberg, the federal treasurer who is hoping for re-election to the seat of Kooyong in Melbourne.
Elton famously took a dig at Clive Palmer in the 2019 election, with a fake Ikea ad: “Geez Clive … $60 million and not a single seat? Should have come to Ikea.”
This time he targets the “Keep Australia secure” and “Keep Josh” billboards springing up in the inner eastern Melbourne electorate in response to a strong campaign by independent candidate Dr Monique Ryan.
Elton’s images have the words: "Please let me keep my job. Not Joshing.”
The campaign has taken off on social media, under a variety of hashtags including #notjoshing, where he says: "Was just down in Camberwell Junction earlier this morning. Wowsers. Desperate times call for desperate treasurers. These new billboards are everywhere!"
And: "Frydenberg’s latest billboards underline the extent to which they’re utterly spooked by the ever brightening light at the end of the electoral tunnel!"
More: "Must be scary for anyone on the cusp of losing their job. They’d be totally forgiven for lapsing into panic mode…"
Elton told AdNews: “Possibly the most ‘viral’ thing I’ve done since Clive/IKEA?”
