Special New Zealand has won the AdNews magazine Cover of the Year for 2021.

The agency won the honour for the best cover in a popular vote, against a strong field: January/February Engine Group; March/April Howatson+; May/June Innocean Australia; July/August AWARD School student William Labourier from NSW; The Annual Houston Group.

The September/October issue focused on New Zealand to look at how the industry had been tracking during the pandemic.

Special New Zealand worked magic with The Calm Inside the Storm cover, a giant Kiwi inside a snow globe with the storm outside, protected from the wilds of the pandemic.

Lisa Fedyszyn, ECD: "The idea had to tick certain boxes and obviously to get across everything we wanted to say in one image — that New Zealand creative industries are getting on with it.

"The chosen idea just seemed like a simple concept to grasp, and proof we are in fact getting on with it, as the image in the globe is a Tourism New Zealand film, shot here in Aotearoa in collaboration with Special Australia."
