Adman gets chipped to show off internet of you

While some agencies are talking up the potential of wearables, Sydney shop Vanilla Brief has gone a step further with agency director Ben Slater inserting an NFC enabled RFID chip into his body.

Slater says the move is pure experimentation but is also a way to open people's eyes to the future of the internet of things, with his effort effectively turning him into a pioneer of the internet of you.

Slater's chip, inserted into his hand, enables him to download his contact details to an NFC phone with a wave of his hand, or turn off all the lights in his house.

He has also loaded his Bitcoin string onto the chip – similar to chips used to identify cats and dogs.

“It's a proof point that someone can do it,” Slater told AdNews.

“We are going to get to a situation where people can augment themselves and interact with wearables and with the internet of things in a way which is hidden. This is literally bleeding edge.”

Slater has uploaded a YouTube video showing the chip being inserted and demos of how it can be used to pass information onto a phone.

“From the perspective of a marketer its the next soiree into the next step. It's a talking point and something to get people thinking about what's next.

“You could use it in terms of experiential stuff that triggers something happening.”

You can see the video of the chip being inserted and in action here, but caution, not for the squeamish.
