SYDNEY: The Communications Council has appointed a CEO after a long search, with Daniel Leesong, ex-chief of staff for the former Premier of Tasmania stepping into the role.

“Daniel was a stand out candidate and received unanimous endorsement from the Board members who were involved in the recruitment process,” said chairman of the Communications Council, Host CEO Anthony Freedman.

Leesong has also held management and public affairs roles at the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, Distilled Spirits Industry Council of Australia, and the Australian Hotels Association.

Leesong will commence in the role from 1 March with other new appointments expected in the coming months. The search for a CEO has taken several months. In the interim former Advertising Federation of Australia executive director Mark Champion acted in the role.

Leesong's appointment follows the formation of The Communications Council in January this year after the merger of the AFA, the Account Planning Group and the Australasian Writers and Art Directors Association.
