Meet Borobi, the 21st Commonwealth Games mascot to Australia.
Created by SapientNitro, Borobi, the mascot for the 2018 Games, was launched live on Channel Seven's Sunrise.
The launch video for Borobi features Channel Seven sports reporter Pat Welsh profiling the unstoppable koala, who was developed with the help of the animation team at Cutting Edge Brisbane.
Borobi was based on a mascot design competition entry by Merrilyn Krohn with a brief for Sapient to also incorporate his backstory and Indigenous design elements.
Creative Director, Ralph Barnett says: "SapientNitro provided the core creative direction in the development of the mascot by combining deep storytelling and character development experience.
“Giving Borobi a dynamic personality and genuine spirit was an exciting part of the project and watching him come to life both digitally and physically has made us all feel like proud parents."
The Indigenous markings on Borobi’s paws were included in the design to raise awareness of the local Indigenous Yugambeh Language Group of the Gold Coast in South East Queensland. The name Borobi means koala in the Yugambeh language.
