Amnesty International Australia has kicked off a campaign aiming to encourage the global arms trade treaty to end the misuse of weapons that cause human rights violations.

Created by M&C Saatchi, the campaign features an interactive digital petiton which allows signatures to be collected, in order to be presented to world governments by Amnesty International at the United Nations in July.

It will also feature a major street event in Melbourne's Federation Square on 13 June, supported by Facebook executions, guerrilla sticker activation and card distribution.

It is supported by a host of celebrities including chef Matt Preston, designer Alex Perry and television show The Chaser.
