Weight Watchers has ditched models from its magazine covers and vowed to replace them with real Australian women in every issue, claiming it is the only local magazine to do so.

As part of a redesign, the company has said it will eliminate airbrushing and will not change the appearance or body shape of any of the women featured on the cover.

The first issue of the revamped title will be the 13 June, and will aim to reflect a “younger, more vibrant feel”.

The cover girl of the issue will be Northern Territory school teacher Penelope Strachan, who lost 20 kilos with the program.

The issue will also feature recipes, fashion and fitness advice, and a range of success stories.

Weight Watchers magazine editor Jennifer Connell said: “As Australia’s most trusted healthy lifestyle magazine, we’re confident that by bringing this new burst of life, the magazine will prove to be an even more valuable tool for our readers.”

The cover price of the magazine is $6.20.
