Tourism Victoria on the hunt for top marketer

The man behind Tourism Victoria's renowned 'Jigsaw' campaign, marketing director Don Richter, has resigned after more than two decades.

Richter will officially finish up at the organisation at the end of next week. He was marketing director for 12 of his 21 years at Tourism Victoria. He was awarded the Australian Marketing Institute's Marketer of the Year in 2005.

During his tenure, he oversaw the critically acclaimed and awarded 'Every piece of Victoria' brand positioning which was developed in conjunction with its then-creative agency Publicis Mojo. A Tourism Victoria spokesperson said the organisation will continue with the 'Jigsaw' campaign despite Richter's departure.

Tourism Victoria has started looking for his replacement with a local and international recruitment process. In the interim, line managers will report directly to the chief executive.

Richter's replacement will be responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing activities across traditional and online platforms, according to a recruitment ad placed by Archway Group.

According to the Victoria Tourism Industry Council's Facebook page, Richter will take up a marketing position with the state government's Department of State Development, Business and Innovation.

Tourism Victoria's creative agency is Clemenger BBDO Melbourne while media is handled by the Victorian Government's master media agency Mitchell & Partners.
