Modern Family has once again drawn over a million viewers for Ten as the US comedy stamps its presence as the highest rated program for the struggling network.
Modern Family drew in 1.04 million metro viewers last night, up marginally from the previous week, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam. Another episode of the program was watched by 822,000 viewers.
Ten chose to broadcast double first-run episodes last night, replacing a single episode of The New Normal, which will return next Sunday. Ten is now only one episode behind the US broadcast of Modern Family. The Emmy-winning comedy is the network's highest-rating series.
Ten's other plank in the fast-tracking game has been critically acclaimed Showtime-drama Homeland, whose ratings have proven to be more lacklustre. Homeland, which is two episodes behind the US schedule, attracted 650,000 viewers last night, down from the season one average of a million viewers earlier in the year.
However, Homeland has been performing strongly on consolidated ratings figures which takes into account viewers who recorded and watched the show within a week of the initial airing. The 14 October episode of Homeland gained an impressive 26.1% on consolidated numbers while the 21 October episode saw a jump of 25.6% to 894,000 viewers. The consolidated results for the 28 October episode will be available later today, and next week for last night's episode.
Elsewhere, Seven had the most-watched series of the evening with Sunday Night in first place with 1.34 million viewers. Airways, Border Security and Bones was watched by 940,000, 890,000 and 818,000 people respectively.
On Nine, the last Sunday episode of Big Brother 2012 commanded 904,000 viewers while the season finale of House Husbands attracted 1.04 million viewers. The Mentalist had 654,000 people tuned in.
Other programs in the top 20 were Seven News, 60 Minutes (Nine), Nine News, David Attenborough: The Kingdom of Plants (ABC), ABC News, The Making of Kingdom of Plants (ABC), Dangerous Remedy (ABC), Ten News, Merlin (Ten) and Killing Time (Seven).
Across the main channels, Nine claimed first spot for the day with 22.8% of audience share, followed by Seven with 21.9%, Ten with 13.4%, the ABC with 13.3% and SBS with 4.7%.
