TAC reviews creative, Grey on alert

Grey Melbourne will be defending its oldest client, Transport Accident Commission, after the government body announced a statutory review of its advertising business.

The TAC has called for expressions of interest which will then proceed to a request for tender. The business is reviewed every three years.

The pitch will be led by recently appointed senior manager of marketing Simon Strahan who joined the organisation earlier this year after the departure of long-time marketer John Thompson at the end of 2012.

Grey and TAC has been in partnership since 1989 and is one of the longest-held accounts in Australia. Veteran Grey staffers creative director Nigel Dawson and general manager Randal Glennon have been working on the business for many years.

Additionally, the work produced by Grey and the TAC have been locally and internationally awarded for both creativity and effectiveness. It is often held up as the benchmark for public safety advertising campaigns. Recent notable campaigns included 'The Ripple Effect' and 'Pictures of You'.

Strahan said: “Changing behaviour is a key component in reducing road trauma in Victoria. This is an opportunity for agencies to enter into a competitive pitch for the TAC advertising and marketing campaign business.

“We have commenced a formal and rigorous process that includes Expression of Interest and Request for Tender stages which we expect to complete towards the end of the year. The process will be subject to the highest levels of governance and oversight, with Pitcher Partners appointed as probity advisers."

The TAC also works with Naked Communications on a project basis.
