Stuart Sayers is set to leave Yahoo!7 to set up operations for Amazon Australia.

Sayers was promoted to chief executive in September last year, stepping into the role after Rohan Lund left to become chief operating officer at Seven West Media.

Sayers will stay in the business until the end of January. Emma Harrington, a Yahoo!7 director who has been on secondment with Seven will step in as acting MD.

The news that Sayers has been hired to help set up the Jeff Bezos behemoth in Australia will have major implications for the highstreet landscape.

Statement published below.

Yahoo!7 can confirm that Emma Harrington will take on the role of Acting MD for Yahoo!7 following the departure of CEO Stuart Sayers.

Emma Harrington has most recently held the role of Head of Data and Transaction Commercialisation at Seven West Media having previously worked with the Yahoo!7 business since its inception, most recently as the Director of Strategy. Emma will return to the Yahoo!7 business until a new CEO is secured.

Stuart Sayers will be leaving Yahoo!7 for a new role in the digital industry.

“I would like to personally thank Stuart for this commitment and efforts over the past year in leading the Yahoo!7 business in the role of CEO. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours. The executive recruitment process is already underway and we hope to announce a new CEO soon. Stuart has agreed to remain in the business until the end of January 2014 to ensure a managed transition working alongside Emma,” Rose Tsou, SVP of APAC for Yahoo! Inc and chair of the Yahoo!7 board.
