Nine thrashed its rivals with the debut of The Voice scoring 2.17 million viewers, while the network's audience share was more than double Seven's.

Nine's big bet on The Voice has paid healthy winnings with 2.17 million metro viewers tuned in to the competition reality series, according to preliminary overnight figures from OzTam.

The program peaked at 2.93 million people and is the highest rating launch to date for 2012. Sponsors for the show include Ford, Vodafone, IAG, AustralianSuper and Swisse.

Previously, Seven's Revenge held the record with 2.05 million average viewers tuned in the first episode.

Nine's decision to debut its new series as the lead-in to The Logies carried viewers over to the award show's red carpet coverage as 1.80 million viewers watched the arrivals. 1.37 million people stayed on for the ceremony. Nine's news bulletin garnered 1.43 million viewers and was third for the night.

The network's ratings victory last night was cemented with comedian Hamish Blake taking out the Gold Logie award. Blake and partner Andy Lee's Hamish & Andy's Gap Year was broadcast on Nine last year.

The series return of Seven's Dancing With The Stars was dented in the head-to-head timeslot battle against The Voice, which drew in half the audience with 1.07 million viewers. Seven News was the network's most watched show for the night with 1.33 million people.

Ten's Sunday night, traditionally one of the network's strongest nights, was also hampered by Nine's dominance. Its most watched program was The Biggest Loser in eighth place with 739,000 viewers, followed by Modern Family with 724,000. Both programs usually rate around 1 million viewers on Sundays.

Across the main channels, Nine convincingly won the night with 37.2% of audience share, more than double Seven's 18.4%. Ten was third with 13.4%, followed by the ABC with 10.1% and SBS with 4.0%.
