News Limited has refused to be drawn on reports that it is set to cut 400 editorial jobs as part of a wide-reaching restructure implemented by chief executive Kim Williams.

According to reports, up to 400 jobs face the chopping block at News Limited.

It is well known within the industry that Williams is planning significant changes within the media giant.

Much of the change has been necessitated by structural changes within the media industry, where consumers are moving into the online space in massive numbers.

A News Limited spokesman confirmed the company was in the middle of a “substantial transformation”, but would not confirm any redundancies.

He said: “News Limited is undergoing a substantial transformation aimed at improving our business and the quality of our products.

“As we work through internal initiatives we will always work with our staff to ensure that changes are made with care and with a view to minimal disruption as we transform the company and make it stronger in delivering great products to consumers and advertisers.

“It is not News Limited’s practice to discuss internal organisational matters and general operational initiatives in public and so we will not be providing a running commentary.”
