MediaCom has retained the Queensland Government media account, AdNews can reveal. A spokesperson has confirmed the win. The account was understood to be down to three-way fight between MediaCom, OMD and Mitchells after a drawn-out pitch process.

MediaCom has held the account since 2005, retaining it in 2008 and 2011. Retaining it again will come as a relief for MediaCom boss Mark Pejic, who took over from Toby Jenner at the end of 2011 and has seen several major accounts under review this year.

The Queensland Government spent $41.8 million on main media in the 12 months to July, according to Nielsen, down from $60 million in the prior corresponding period as Premier Campbell Newman slashed government spending.
